Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and that means much more than discounted chocolate on the 15th!
We believe in a high level of customer service, and we think there are a lot of similarities in starting a relationship with a new client and dating. Crazy, right? Let’s talk through this metaphor and learn how to love your clients as best you can!
The First Date
The sales process is very similar to a first date. You might know each other socially, have mutual friends, or you could be going into it completely blind. In any event, the first meeting is important. You want to make a good impression on them, but also make sure they’re a good fit for you. Do you have similar personalities or work ethics? Do your company values align with one another? These are questions you want answered from the get go.
The Dating Relationship
Working on a client’s project over a six month or year long period is much like nurturing a relationship. You’ll be spending time, resources, and money on this client, and you want to deliver results and show them you care. This is a trial period to make sure you’re a great fit for one another. If not, don’t be afraid to cut each other loose.
Maybe you’ve worked with this client for a few months or even a few years, but you know they are one of your top clients. You deliver great results but you also love working with them. You’ve embedded yourself as a part of the team. Give them recognition. Ask for a testimonial for your website, make them a case study, or showcase them as a client spotlight on your company’s Facebook page! Either way, they are a top tier partner and should be recognized as such. Showcase these relationships and be proud of them.
You’re in it for the long haul! This is a long term relationship, and you know a lot about each other. However, your business and your clients are constantly changing and adapting, so be sure to embrace those changes. This is the time to keep what’s working the same and change up what might need a little adjustment. Marketing is ever-changing so don’t be afraid to try new things. Experiment and mix it up! That’s what makes life fun.
